Unbeknown to many, Japan had decided to build a secret underground shelter into the Japanese alps during world war 2. It was supposed to house a the Japanese ministries, NHK and even the emperor. Even though it was never used, about 75 percent of the tunnels had been finished by the time Japan surrendered in August 1945.
Today the remainder of the bunker can be visited in Matsushiro in Nagano city.
